Girl in the Monaco Flower Market  16x20  Oils on canvas panel

Another painting inspired by a Jilly Bennett blog. This time it's her Monte Carlo Daily Photo blog. What a rich resource her blogs are! AND they're INTERESTING to read as well as to view!

Anywayyyyy - I took some liberties in making the painting from Jilly's photo. So what's new?

I had done a painting a while ago of a vendor in a Flea Market Flower Stand and had fun trying to paint things that looked like flowers. I struggle with plant life-forms for some reason. Trees, shrubs, flowers and etc. make my palms sweaty. Some research into some "how to paint green things" seems in order! :-)

  2. Ken, I really do like this. You've pared her and the scene down to basics - taken away all the fussiness and for me it really works. I love also that her apron is the same colour as the canopy and how the distance fades but you know there is more. I'd say a great success. Flowers look just fine to me, by the way! And thanks for kind comments on my blogs. So glad you enjoy them and find some of the photos inspiring. That gives me so much pleasure to know you use them in your art.

  3. Berit, thank you! Although I "cheated" by omitting some details, the painting is fine.

    Thanks again.

  4. Jilly, thank YOU for such a wealth of inspirational photos of people and their "public" lives! Each time I use one of your photos for a painting, I ask myself "what will Jilly think of this?". And I fret! :-)

Thank you very much for your enthusiastic support and permission to use your works.

  5. You are brave, Ken, to paint so big canvas!I like this young woman, and your colors..Why, from time to time, would you not return to the challenges? they are numerous, and are effective, help us progress, as Karin Jurick did.
Thank you to pass on my blog and leave your positive comments! also tomorrow there will be something interesting ..
    Have a nice Sunday.

  6. Thank you, Sylviane! I think that it's easier to paint "larger" than "smaller". AND I don't like wearing my reading glasses to see those small painting strokes! :-)

You've got me very curioius now to see your "interesting" post. What a tease you are!

  7. I love this Ken! Your tonal values are spot on and what a beautiful composition. And when you go for lessons on green things, I think I must come with you.

  8. Hi Liz. Thanks for the compliments! :-) I'm working on another fly fishing painting with the fisherman in a wooded stream. In order to NOT have to paint trees, I have tried to make the background appear as a foggy morning! I think that this is called "avoiding the issue"! ha ha ha ho ho!?

  9. Look who's talking about not drawing well. Well, you did not say it explicitly, but you implied it and you are just too modest.
I used to like to paint only humans and I was then inspired by other artists to paint other things. I hope I will be inspired to paint landscapes some day soon, for that is a subject I fear to tackle.
I see that you used to be a computer expert. Is there a way I could tell when somebody leaves a comment? You "taught" me how before and I did not seem to get it "duh me!" Thank you for your response(but do I have to come back here to know if there is a response?) LOL

  10. Hi Millie. If only you could see me WORK to make painting with a human life-form in it! :-)

You can be notified by email when people comment in your blog in the DESIGN page. Under the "SETTINGS" tab there are nine (9) options the fourth option is COMMENTS. At the bottom of that page is Comment Notification Email with some meager information. Please note that if you moderate comments, the email won't be sent until you publish the comments. No need to be notified if you just published them?!?! :-)

After viewing your painting I have a thirst for some lemonade! Wonder why? :-)
