Mule Deer

Mule Deer  9 x 12  oils on panel

Taking a break from paintings of birds I made this small painting of a doe and her fawn.

I guess that I could have spent a little more time in rendering the deer, but I kept doing things that didn't improve anything.  I think the official technical term is "making it worse".

Talk about an obvious title for a painting!  EscuuuUUuuse meeeee!

Wolf In The Trees

This glowering wolf seems a bit scary in my painting from a U.S. Government photo.  Maybe I thought that I was interrupting it's meal which is out of sight in the foreground grass.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I suppose that the name that I gave this painting isn't very pertinent.  The wolf is in a clearing in the woods. I find it very difficult  to make up a name for a painting.  I usually use what I think is the obvious. Sometimes it's meaningful other times . . . . . . ?

I did another wolf painting then decided that if you've seen one or two paintings of a wolf, you've seen enough!  :-)

These wolf paintings were my tests to see if I could reasonably represent animal fur.  I studied other artists' painting of "furry critters" then made my paintings.

A Wolf in the Forest

$150.00 plus shipping
A Wolf in the Forest  16x20  Oils on canvas panel

This wolf is more threatening than the pair of wolves in the snow that I had painted before this. Maybe he's on the way to find Little Red Riding Hood or the Three Pigs to try to have a "snack".  :-)

The setting is supposed to be a fir tree forest but I don't know that I'm pleased with my tree effort. Anyone that has been reading this blog will understand that I don't much like painting plant things. ESPECIALLY trees! ;-)

The reference photo for this painting did, for sure, come from the BLM (Bureau of Land Management website. Lots of good public domain reference photos there.

Caught in a snow storm

I'm not sure where I saw the photo that led to this painting. Probably a BLM (Bureau of Land Management) photo. Their photo archive search page can be found here.

The photo was of the wolves in a snowy forest setting. I added the falling snow just because I could. :-) AND because I felt that it made the scene look even more cold that it probably is/was.

These guys appear to be more curious than threatening although the wolf on the right seems to be looking at me as if I'll soon be invited to be dinner.
