Young Artist 18x24 Oil on canvas board
I'm trying to have the figure back lighted (back lit?) and it's proving difficult for me. The photo picks up brush strokes more than I'd like, but . . .

I'm calling this one DONE!
Hi Ken, but you have chosen a difficult subject! Backlit is awesome and you have some wonderful darkness on her face . Love the way her back is starting to blend into the shadows. As for her eye - you would hardly see it with the backlighting!
ReplyDeleteHi Liz. Thanks for your helpful comment. As you know, I have a hard time with DARKs! :-) I'll post the "final" version and move on to a new painting as I practice making darks darker. Maybe my brushes are stuck in "lighter mode"? :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks again

Hi Ken!
ReplyDeleteI love the subject, I can't help it but I feel somewhat identified with it (not for the young part hehe, but, I don't know, maybe it's the backlighting thing that creats this melancholic atmosphere, the painting stuff -I wish I had time for painting these days!- I think what I'm trying to say is I wish I could be there, in that painting, right now).
Best regards,
Carolina
Wow. In the last step you really nailed the balance of light/dark on the figure. Great mood too.
ReplyDeleteHey Mr. G! Thank you for dropping by my blog. This piece is one of the harder ones that I've tried lately. Blogger friends keep telling me "DARK, DARK, DARKER"! I'm not totally happy with it, but I'm going to let it sit for a while then take a look.
ReplyDeleteSee ya!
