I wouldn't have chosen cupcakes as a subject for a painting, but what the heck? :-) It was fun - after a while. But it was really harder than I thought that it would be! At least there isn't much green in this painting. I seem to often make paintings with a lot of GREEN!
Check out the other submissions to Different Strokes From Different Folks (DSFDF). It's really interesting what the different artists put down in their works. Well, I THINK that it's interesting. :-)
I think it's always good for us to push ourselves and paint something that isn't in our realm of comfort - you did an excellent job on this!

Hi Diana. As you know the challenge had 3 full cupcakes and two halves. I struggled with that for a while then did some hasty cropping, big time!!!! (KUDOS to those who did all of 'em!) Then the straight across seemed B-O-R-I-N-G to me so I used the photo editor to tilt the picture.

Well done, Ken. I like how you added variety to to background by introducing some yellow. I agree...cupcakes are harder to paint than they first appear.
ReplyDeleteHi Dean - thanks for dropping by. I finally spread the paint as if it were really icing and I almost got the feel/look of icing. I guess that's what I people mean when they say "be the ---".
ReplyDeleteAs for the background - I shy away from BLACK and WHITE. (I use grays for whites and reds+greens for my darks (black).) ANYHOWWWWW - I couldn't bear all of that white. :-)

Hi Carolina. I was born in Panama & my brother ws born in Guatamala, I was 4 or 5 yrs old when my family moved back to the "states" after WWII. I became a US citizen in 1969! There's a LONG story behind THAT statement! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in the military in the '60s some of our assignments took us to Bogata,Colombia, Lima, Peru, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Quito, Ecuador. From those cities we flew to other parts of those and neighboring countries. So I feel a real connection to Central and South America. At one point (in the '60s) I was able to speak passable spanish. No mas!
