France - Menton - Flamenco in Gorbiio

France - Menton - Flamenco in Gorbiio
16 x 20  Oils on canvas panel

This is from a post by Jilly in her blog Menton Daily Photo.

I have problems making clear, crisp photos of my paintings. My automatic camera is being surly again and won't focus on the painting, or when it does focus properly show every bit of the tiniest glare! :-)

  1. Ken, you've really caught the intensity of this dancer. I think he'd be really pleased if he saw this. Maybe you can turn down the flash when you photograph your paintings - or even put a tiny piece of very find fabric over the flash?

  2. Hi Jilly! Thank you for your thoughts on my painting and my (lack) photography skills. ha ha

I don't every use flash. This and the other photos that I posted Nov 4 were taken inside my studio before sunrise. AND I placed each painting in a fabric "box". The lighting was an incandescent bulb (supposedly on of those "daylight" bulbs?) on the side of the "box".

For some reason some paintings require a photographer who knows what they're doing. Are you available any time soon? :-) Maybe a better camera would help? I don't know.

Thanks for all of your posts on your blogs. I want to make paintings of ALL of them!

  3. Wow, you have been really busy these days. I am so glad! The man dancing looks very tense and "flamenco-ish", great result.
Another option for experiment with your camera: make photo in daylight, outdoors, put it on the floor and make a shot from above (maybe stand on the chair, or small stairs for it). Now i keep going with your posts.
