Offering of fish

Offering of fish  12x16  Oils on canvas panel

Yet another painting inspired by a photo from Jilly Bennett's blog Menton Daily Photo. See and read Jilly's post here.  While you're there, "browse" her other posts - really well done and very interesting.

I need to do something to something that's bothering me.  Maybe it's the reddish potatoes? They just don't make sense in this painting but did in Jilly's photo. I also want to change the blue basket.

7/19/2010 - DUH! I learned that the "potatoes" ain't! They're FLOATS for the nets!  AAAAAAUUUUGHHHH!

  1. Hi Ken!
I like the painting, and the subject, very much. Love those eyes :)
The thing with the potatoes here maybe has to do with the fact that the fishing net from which they're part of is missing :) They have a nice color that makes a nice and vibrant contrast with the blue tray, imho.
    Nice work!
    Un fuerte abrazo,
    Carolina

  2. Ken, I love this. However, the reason you are having difficulty with the potatoes is that they are NOT potatoes! Enlarge the photo and look carefully and you'll see these are floats designed to keep the fishing net on the water. I see you didn't include the fishing net that surrounds the dish in the original photo - perhaps if you did then the plastic floats which intertwine (there is a hole in the middle of each) would make sense to you. Having said that I still LOVE it! I can send you an enlargement of the original if you like.

  4. Jilly, I'm VERY HAPPY that you looked in on me and are keeping me "in line". I don't know why I thought the floats were potatoes, I guess because of the lemons and limes? The ARE lemons and limes, aren't they? :-) sheeesh! DUHHHHH!!

    I can't believe that I shouldn't ASSUME!

Thank you, Jilly, for such a wonderful, colorful blog. AND for letting me be inspired to create some paintings.
