A Wolf in the Forest

$150.00 plus shipping
A Wolf in the Forest  16x20  Oils on canvas panel

This wolf is more threatening than the pair of wolves in the snow that I had painted before this. Maybe he's on the way to find Little Red Riding Hood or the Three Pigs to try to have a "snack".  :-)

The setting is supposed to be a fir tree forest but I don't know that I'm pleased with my tree effort. Anyone that has been reading this blog will understand that I don't much like painting plant things. ESPECIALLY trees! ;-)

The reference photo for this painting did, for sure, come from the BLM (Bureau of Land Management website. Lots of good public domain reference photos there.

I'm not sure where I saw the photo that led to this painting. Probably a BLM (Bureau of Land Management) photo. Their photo archive search page can be found here.

The photo was of the wolves in a snowy forest setting. I added the falling snow just because I could. :-) AND because I felt that it made the scene look even more cold that it probably is/was.

These guys appear to be more curious than threatening although the wolf on the right seems to be looking at me as if I'll soon be invited to be dinner.

Benton County (Arkansas) 4H Valentine Carnival Feb 19, 2011

Melissa and I went to the 4H Valentine Carnival last night. Melissa is an adult volunteer and she worked in the "snack booth" where they sold hot dogs, soda and pieces of pies. The pies were made by the 4H members and the Cherry Pie that I had was GOOD!!

I donated two of my paintings to the silent auction and they both sold! My first painting sale to somebody that I didn't know!

Yet another day of being snowed in!

Our backyard - 10 inches of snow

One of our crowded bird feeders

Some places have almost 3 feet. This is Arkansas for cryin' out loud!  Cars are getting stuck on the roads and the snow plows can't do their work. The TV doom-sayers (news) are saying that this is the most snowfall ever recorded in Northwestern Arkansas!

Works in progress (WIP)

I've been painting for a contribution to our local 4H Valentine fund raiser. These are some of what I've been doing for the last week or two.  I'm still working on all of these; glazing and making some corrections.

February 2 - C O L D ! Red Wing Blackbirds in the trees

Four and twenty blackbirds . . .
These Red Wing Blackbirds (the black blobs in the trees) are in the trees in back of our property.  They're waiting (I guess) for their reservations at the bird feeders hanging from the pergola in the foreground. The temperature outside is 8F.

After I snapped this photo (from inside our kitchen!) all of those blackbirds took offf as one flock heading to the left of this photo - North.

Sort of reminded me of the Alfred Hitchcock movie "Birds".
